BIOMASS PROCESSING

Ginning

Machinery used to separate foreign matter from cotton consists of a series of spiked cylinder, which is designed to tear and shred the material. As the cylinder rotates, the teeth pass between the stationary teeth and causes the threshing action

Applications:

Separate the waste straw from seed flax. Typical cotton gin machinery for cleaning seed cotton such as cylinder cleaners, stick machines, impact cleaners, and trashmaster cleaners as well as a fiber cleaner, the saw-type lint cleaner, was considered as an alternative.

Cylinder / Drum Action

Threshing is defined as beating the grain from its husk or beating the grains from the heads, as in wheat.

There are two basic action involved with the threshing action: impact and rubbing. The crop is fed into the opening between the cylinder and concave. As the cylinder rotates, the material comes into contact with the rapid moving rasp bars and this impact shatters the grains or seed from the stem, cob, or pod. Additional threshing occurs by a rubbing action as the material is accelerated and passes through the restriction between the cylinder and concave.

Typical applications are the separators located in the combines
